Following its successful pioneer implementation last year, the Philippine One Health University
Network (PhilOHUN), supported by the USAID - US Agency for International Development and the
Southeast Asia One Health University Network (SEAOHUN), conducted the Student One Health
Field Trip on June 28-29, 2024.
With the theme, One Health towards Resilient Communities, the Student One Health Field Trip was
held in Goa and Caramoan in Camarines Sur with the host-venue, Partido State University (ParSU).
Region V, popularly known as the Bicol Region, is notably among the top locations highly vulnerable
to natural calamities such as typhoons, floods, and volcanic eruptions.
A total of 30 participants (26 students and 4 faculty mentors) from various One Health-related
programs such as human health, animal health, environmental health, and social science from
Partido State University (ParSU) and Central Bicol State Agricultural University (CBSUA) gained
valuable learning experience during the said activity.
The Student One Health Field Trip provided students with the knowledge and skills to effectively
address public health threats using a One Health approach. Invited resource persons presented on
various One Health topics aimed at building community resilience. On the second day, community
engagement activities took place in a selected barangay in Caramoan which included a discussion
on responsible pet ownership and free anti-rabies vaccination sponsored by the Central Bicol State
University of Agriculture. Additionally, the PSU Public Health and Nutrition Department gave a
presentation on preparing nutritious meals, especially in the aftermath of disasters.
